Head Varsity Football Coach

DESCRIPTION:

The Head Football Coach at Lincoln King High School is responsible for leading the football program, utilizing football as a platform for developing student-athletes into well-rounded individuals both on and off the field. The ideal candidate will not only possess a high level of knowledge in football strategy and coaching but will also serve as a mentor, modeling a virtuous life and helping student-athletes navigate their physical, spiritual, mental, and social growth. The Head Football Coach will create a culture of excellence and balance, promoting teamwork, school spirit, and pride while guiding students toward their post-high school opportunities. The position requires a commitment to student development, program management, and adherence to district and league regulations.


  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Education, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field).
  • Applicants must provide evidence of experience in high school and/or college sports,
  • Must have at least (5) years of previous High School coaching experience and (3) years of Head Coaching experience
  • Must have knowledge of MHSAA athletic procedures
  • Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required
  • Pass a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities:

  • Must provide and organize adequate supervision before, during, and after practices/games for all scholar-athletes
  • The coaching position is responsible for adhering to the athletic policy approved by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA)
  • Develop, recommend, and implement specific training/conditioning programs and skills development programs
  • Work with other students, faculty, and staff to support the retention of student-athletes
  • Promote teamwork, set high standards, and support the academic, personal, and leadership development of its students
  • Must provide a consistent schedule of time for scholar-athletes to have an academic study table
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and stewardship
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school staff.
  • Works with the Athletics Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times
  • Collaborate with and meet with parents of scholar-athletes to keep them duly informed of the program schedule and activities
  • Must have knowledge of and enforce all Charter School League and MHSAA rules and regulations compliance at all times
  • Shall duly serve as a positive role model/mentor for scholar-athletes
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athletes injury
  • Maintain the football equipment storage in an orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security
  • Complete MHSAA CAP 1-2 and MHSAA Online Rules Meeting
  • Maintain a positive image that aligns with Cornerstone's core values
  • Must show evidence/certification of completing/attending the following and other professional development courses, workshops, and clinics to expand knowledge in all aspects of coaching
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor


Tryouts:

  • Hold tryouts in an organized manner by teaching material at the beginning so students have time to learn it.
  • Inform students at the beginning of tryouts as to how they will learn if they made the team

Off-Season:

  • Conduct some off-season practices and conditioning in compliance with the MHSAA rules and regulations.
  • Coordinate with Athletic Director regarding uniform and practice gear needs
  • Send letter home to parents regarding practice gear requirements and uniform requirements
  • Give out pre- and post- camp workouts to stay in shape for daily doubles.
  • Prepare materials for daily doubles and organize the upcoming season.
  • Work with Athletic Director to schedule non-conference games and tournaments during the season 

Other Functions:

  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate administrator
