TITLE: Pre-Kindergarten Classroom Support Staff

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Early Childhood and GSRP Lead Teachers

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Classroom Support Staff – Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) will assist the Lead and Associate Teachers in providing a high-quality learning environment for students in the GSRP classroom. GSRP classroom support staff member supports the instruction and interaction of students in the classroom to promote nurturing, positive relationships with students and their families. Classroom Support may help students transition between activities and assist during lunch time and naptime. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (May include, but not limited to): 

• Provide program support in instructional and related activities in the GSRP classrooms.
• Follows all regulations pertaining to the GSRP Implementation Manual, Michigan Childcare Licensing and Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), or School Lunch Program.  
• Engage with all students in a way that promotes positive interaction and development of vocabulary and expressive language.
• Engages in outdoor experiences per the State of Michigan’s Childcare Licensing Rules.  Assists students with health and physical needs and personal care routines, including toileting and eating.
• Assists with meals, planned activities, outdoor experiences, and other activities, as required. Works as a team with the Lead and Associate teachers to plan activities in the classroom, large motor area, and playground.
• Actively supervises students at all times and consistently uses active supervision strategies throughout the building, classroom, and outdoors.
• Assists with health and safety protocols to keep children from harm.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in Child Development, Education, Preschool CDA preferred. 

EXPERIENCE:

• Work experience in a childcare or educational program preferred.

SKILLS/OTHER:

• Must be able to obtain a satisfactory national sex offender registry and criminal history check through district and State of Michigan’s childcare licensing fingerprinting.
• Ability to work creatively and communicate effectively with students.
• Works successfully as a member of a team.
• Follows district and state licensing health and safety procedures.
• Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for assisting young children. 
• Repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability required.
• Punctuality and attendance are requirements for the position.

SCHEDULE:

• Monday - Thursday: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

WAGE:

• $15.00 per hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.

• Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment and a computer keyboard
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone
• Reaching overhead and above shoulders to retrieve files and materials
• Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Eyesight to read a variety of materials
